MEAP
Although preparation for the MEAP Test takes place at each grade level K-12, it is imperative that our students receive specific preparation. Fifth graders are required by the State of Michigan to take three MEAP Tests in the areas of Science, English Language Arts and Math. Sixth graders take three MEAP tests in the areas of Social Studies, English Language Arts, and Math. In addition to the curricular focus, we also spend time throughout the year teaching metacognition and test taking strategies. The MEAP testing window is in October each year.
Special Education
Navigator School offers services to meet the needs of qualifying individuals. Specific services will be discussed with parents at the Individual Learning Plan meetings in the Spring. Each year the plan written in the prior year is revisited and adjusted as necessary. Any questions regarding possible services may be directed to the Guidance Counselor at Navigator School.
Student and Family Specialist
The Student & Family Specialist provides individual and family support, including referrals to outside agencies and parent workshops. The Student & Family Specialist also facilitates student groups during the school day, to help students develop such as grief and loss, positive coping skills, and responsibility. The Student & Family Specialist functions as consultant for teachers, administrators and parents; assisting them with student needs.
